Four days of free events will culminate in the Chicago House Music Festival taking place in Millennium Park all in celebration of the popular genre that was born in Chicago in 1984. House Music 40 is a non-profit organization to raise awareness of the significant contributions made by Chicago House Music artists to the global music landscape while providing financial support for Chicago House Music DJs facing ongoing health concerns. The Chicago House Music Festival and Conference—the genre born in Chicago that has gone on to revolutionize dance music internationally. Earlier this week, “The Warehouse,” a 113-year-old West Loop building considered to be the birthplace of house music, became a Chicago landmark. The festival is also bringing back its silent disco, which gives festival-goers a unique personal dance party experience to enjoy with their headphones. Though not technically part of the festival, the release from the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) also mentions “additional programming citywide throughout the weekend,” with local DJs spinning at Maxwell Street Market on June 25 from noon to 2pm.

This is a new home for the Pride Jam, which took place at Salt Shed last year. The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events announced the lineup and schedule Thursday, highlighting artists like Tony Touch, ANANÉ, Ash Lauryn and Karizma. June 1 at Navy Pier’s Wave Wall stage, featuring Stacy Kidd, Gene Hunt, and more. The festival, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the genre, begins May 30 with an Open House featuring House DJs and workshops alongside visual art exhibitions from 4 to 8 p.m at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E.

The celebration will reach its pinnacle on June 2 with the Chicago House Music Festival in Millennium Park from 10am-9pm. Some of the biggest names in house music will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the genre in Grant Park as part of this summer’s NASCAR Chicago Street Race Weekend (July 6-7), it was announced Thursday. The event will include a conference at the Chicago Cultural Center from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, with talks covering everything, including activism, safe spaces, technology and the South African house subgenre known as amapiano.

We’ll speak with some of dance music’s most well known performers during a 30-minute panel to help you find your creative voice. Followed by an intensive 30-minute roundtable where we’ll pair attendees and panelists to demonstrate singing/songwriting techniques and answer questions.
